“Going back
to where you came from after treatment for alcoholism
And drug addiction, almost always spells future -- a return to old
behavior.”
Oxford Houses are family houses that groups of recovering individuals
rent to live together in an environment supportive of recovery from addiction.
Each house is self-run and self-supported following a standardized system
of democratic operation. Each group obtains a charter from Oxford House,
Inc., the umbrella organization for the National Network of Individual
Oxford Houses.
As of 2004, Oxford House has 1,087 houses in 41 states with a goal of
10,000 houses by year 2010. Oxford House extends outreach for help to
faith-based organizations in the Washington, DC Metropolitan community.
Since its introduction at First Rising Mt. Zion, the ministry has helped
six women in the District of Columbia to obtain residency at its 4th
Street house, one woman in Maryland at its Autoville House and one man
at the Cherry Hill House. If you would like to learn more about the Oxford
House Partnership or become a sponsor, please contact Anna Jones at (301)
