Purpose: Church Beautification.
The Flower Club
was organized in 1947 by the late George E. Galloway. Mrs. Sadie Williams
was the first President. In 1952, the club was reorganized by Mrs. Julia
Jeffries, and Mrs. Nellie Coleman became President. Her tenure lasted
42 years.
There were several projects accomplished under Mrs. Coleman’s
leadership. The club grew spiritually and definitely, numerically.
Fellowship was outstanding. Sister Coleman was called to her eternal
rest in 1994.
This is a historical organization because, not only is it one of the
first to be organized in First Rising Mt. Zion, but one of the Church’s
original founders, Sister Eva Cook, is still a member of the ministry.
Sister Cook has been there since the ministry’s early existence.
She is history in itself. The Flower Club was also the first organization
Mrs. Etta C. Gibson (our former First Lady) joined.
The main objective of the Flower Club was to beautify the church by
providing flowers for the Sanctuary and other areas of the church.
Sister Addie Smith Watson (the current President) was Vice President
for fifteen years before becoming President in 1994.
The Flower Club is now the Women’s Flower Ministry and is currently
in the process of executing a new ministry program. The Ministry intends
to give assistance to the aging, elderly senior citizens in the community.
On special occasions, they will take flowers to Nursing Homes and give
assistance where and when needed and provide companionship to the elderly.
The long-range plan is to develop a crafts workshop and naturally,
it will involve flowers.
