| The Decorator’s
Guild (Ministry) of First Rising Mt. Zion Baptist Church was organized
in 1963 under the leadership of its first President, Mrs. Gwendolyn McLaurin.
The main purpose of this organization was to decorate and beautify the
church on special occasions and, on other occasions, to help other church
organizations with decorations.
Some of our most memorable events were when the Decorator’s
Guild participated in the building of the Christ Manger Scene in front
of the church. Many of the figures for the scene were donated. In addition,
the Guild, along with the District of Columbia Police and Recreation
Department, hosted 4th of July, Halloween and Christmas parties for
the neighborhood children.
From 1980 to 1982, the Decorator’s Guild came under the new
direction of Mrs. Annie Gomillion and Mrs. Beulah McCall, often referred
to as the “Sister Dynasty.” Many of the Guild’s members
were reorganized for outstanding service. In 1982, at the Church and
Pastor’s Anniversary, the Decorator’s Guild was presented
a plaque by Mrs. Delores Gibson in recognition of having the most meaningful
organization banner.
We give thanks to God for our many accomplishments. We ask your prayers
as we continue to grow spiritually, and accomplish the goals set for
the Decorator’s Guild Ministry.
