For too long youth and young adults in First Rising Mt. Zion Baptist Church and in the community surrounding the church, have been crying out for a worship experience that address their needs and concerns. It is out of that cry for change and awareness that the Pastor of First Rising Mt. Zion Baptist Church and the leadership of the church have decided to address the spiritual needs and desires of the young people with a new praise and worship experience unlike anything that has ever occurred in the church or the surrounding community. Every 1st Friday, First Rising Mt. Zion Baptist Church opens its doors to the youth and young adults in the community with a spiritual experience that will not only address the desires of youth in the church but will be the candle in the darkness for those who are not in church to better understand God his purpose for their life.

1st Fridays will be a venue in which young people of all ages will be able to experience God in a way different from what some would consider that same traditional and sometime mundane worship experience that for too long has ignored the next generation of worshipers. 1st Fridays will be the bridge between the old and the new, more importantly it will be the bridge between the current generation and past generations.

It is the hope and desire of the Pastor that 1st Fridays will be the venue in which those who love God and want to share praise Him and share their gifts will be able to do so. Whether that gift is through song, comedy, acting, dancing, art, cooking, etc., the young adults of First Rising Mt. Zion will finally have the ability to praise God in a way that will be pleasing unto Him.

» When is it held?
Beginning the 1st Friday in May, 1st Fridays will be subsequently held every month following that starting at 6:55 PM.

» Where is it held?
1st Fridaysare held at First Rising Mt. Zion Baptist Church located at 602 N St., NW, Washington, DC.

» Who can attend?
Youth of all ages are allowed and invited to attend 1st Fridays. 1st Fridays is for anyone who knows the Lord and/or wants to know more about God and his purpose in their life.

» What is the dress code?
God speaking through the Apostle James said in James 2:1-4 “My brothers, as believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ, don't show favoritism. Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in shabby clothes also comes in. If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, "Here's a good seat for you," but say to the poor man, "You stand there" or "Sit on the floor by my feet," have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?” One should come to the praise and worship experience wearing whatever they want!

» What should I expect from 1st Fridays?
Expect for God to move in the service and to be blessed. The music will be different than what one would here on a normal Sunday morning service but it will at all times edify God. The dress code will be different but all worshipers will come to God as they are. Sometimes you might receive a lesson from a preacher the next time you might here the message from a comedian or from an acting troupe. Either way we believe God to move amongst the young people in a glorious and magnificent way.

» Will there be a time for fellowship?
After every 1st Friday, attendees will be encouraged to stay after and fellowship in the churches multipurpose room so that young people who love the Lord will have an opportunity to meet and speak with other young people who love the Lord.
